As a Client Engineer, you will be responsible for the game client, as well as world-building tools for our game development pipeline.

Lead Technical Animator

Playable Worlds is seeking a talented Technical Animator for our new game studio in Northern San Diego County. In this role, you’ll work for the Studio Art Director creating advanced animation solutions and pipelines. You will also work with the Lead Technical Artist and the Lead Character Artist to create scalable solutions for player characters, creatures and amazing worlds. Working with tool engineer teams and designers to develop techniques and tools for massively multiplayer world and asset pipeline creation, you’ll be responsible for setting up complex animation pipelines, rigging, and client animation systems. As an early hire you’ll be an integral part of a diverse company culture founded on our passion for gaming and dedicated to creating an open and transparent, family-friendly work environment. Playable Worlds offers competitive salaries in the art field. An art test will be required of all selected candidates.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in game development animating and rigging characters using industry-standard software like Maya, Motion Builder, and Houdini.
  • Experience with Unreal, Unity, or equivalent proprietary engine experience like Lumberyard or Frostbite.
  • Highly skilled in animation pipeline software, rigging, and animation.
  • Experience with technical setup of human, quadrupeds, and bipedal characters and creatures.
  • Strong knowledge of traditional animation techniques in addition to working knowledge of large, scalable multiplayer games.
  • Highly motivated with good communication skills, and a great team-player attitude to interface directly with designers, tools developers, and engineers.
  • Experience with key frame and motion capture clean up data, and advanced animation tools such as Motion Builder, complex retargeting solutions for creatures and character and scripting.
  • Experience working with complex physics-based animation systems
  • Must be authorized to work in the United
  • Must have portfolio link on resume with examples of latest work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with massively multiplayer online games (MMO) with large world requirements.
    Python and Mel experience.
  • Experience with advanced destructible housing and environment systems and pipelines.
